What is Equine Assisted Learning?
Equine Assisted Learning uses horses to help people better understand themselves, their emotions, and their relationships.
-
Horses are smart and emotionally intuitive animals, and they can act as mirrors. They can pick up on our emotions and reflect them back to us, helping us recognize what we may be feeling and how we are responding in certain situations.
Sometimes, a horse may respond to our emotions before we even recognize them ourselves. Through this process, horses can help us become more aware of our emotions and reactions, which can eventually help us learn how to better regulate and respond to our feelings.
And horses being “mirrors” is just one amazing thing they bring to the table!
-
Research has explored how interactions with horses can affect things such as heart rate and stress. Being around a calm and quiet horse may help us feel more relaxed and grounded.
-
In my program, an individual or group will be given a simple activity to complete that involves the horse. Before the activity begins, directions will be explained, and some questions may be asked to get everyone thinking about the topic we will be working on.
Through the activity and conversation, clients can begin to recognize patterns in their emotions, behaviors, and reactions.
Although the activities may seem simple, they can open our eyes to how we approach situations in our everyday lives. You may discover a strength you didn’t realize you had, recognize an area you would like to grow in, or learn something new about how you respond to certain situations.
From there, we can take what you learned through the activity with the horse and apply it to your everyday life, focusing on ways you can continue to grow.
-
Can young children participate in equine assisted learning? Absolutely!
Although the sessions and overall process may look similar, activities for younger children will be simpler and focused on topics that are easier for them to understand.
For example, a session for children under 7 might focus on confidence or communication.
The goal is to make the experience fun, engaging, and age-appropriate while still helping children learn more about themselves.
How do Equine-Assisted Learning sessions work?
Some sessions may be focused more on reflection and self-growth, while others may simply be about spending time with the horse and participating in an activity designed to help you slow down, find peace, or become more present.
That’s one of the things I love about this program: every session can look a little different. You will be able to choose the topics or sessions that interest you, such as:
Self-growth
Building confidence
Communication
Leadership
Learning to slow down
Finding peace
And more!
Each session will have a description so you can choose the experience that best fits what you are looking for.
All sessions will focus on different topics, which will be shared before you sign up. Groups will be divided by age, and one-on-one sessions will always be an option as well.
I am so excited to share this beautiful process of looking inward, learning about ourselves, and growing alongside these incredible animals.
